During the month of February all Kindergarten-5th grade students will participate in the Read-A-Thon. This is a month long program to encourage a love of reading.

During the Read-A-Thon (RAT) all K-5 students will keep track of the the minutes they read - or minutes read to them by a parent - outside of class. Parents will need to take an active role in helping their student keep track of the minutes. All minutes read by students (or by parents to students) should be entered on the calendar. At the end of the month parents will need to total up ALL minutes read by their student and enter the total online no later than March 5th. You can find the forms to enter minutes here (simply scroll down and click on the name of your student's teacher).

As a reminder, minutes read in class do not count towards Read-A-Thon goals -unless a teacher holds a "Read In" event and shares it with the Read-A-Thon coordinator. Additionally, for all students - regardless of whether they are doing in-person or distance learning - only minutes read outside of the typical school day (M-F 9:35-4:05) will count towards the total minutes read. On days where there is no school - weekends and those days noted on the calendar - we encourage students to read as many minutes as they can!

The student in each grade with the highest number of minutes read will win a brand new bike and helmet courtesy of the PTA. These bikes are usually donated by the Lake Harriet Masonic Lodge, but due to Covid they have suspended their Bikes for Books program. We look forward to working with them again in the future.

While we generally pair this event with a fundraiser the PTA has decided to forgo that this year and really keep the focus on reading.
