I am delighted to continue teaching at Lake Harriet Lower Campus!   I spent my first 3 years  of teaching in Waukegan, IL, after graduating from Luther College with a BA degree in elementary education and Spanish.  For 22 years  I taught at Jefferson Community School in Minneapolis, first as a Spanish specialist and then for 17 years as a third grade teacher. In the fall of 2008 I moved to Lake Harriet.  My husband and I enjoy living in the  Linden Hills neighborhood.  Our daughter graduated from Southwest High School in 2012 and the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point in 2016.  Our son graduated from Southwest in 2015 and Luther College in 2019.

Thank you for sending your child to school with scarves, face masks, snow pants, boots, thick gloves or mittens, etc. so that your child will be prepared for the weather on these bitter days.  We had indoor recess today because of the below zero windchill but we do go out even when it is quite cold.  Also, sometimes there is a delay with the buses arriving.

This week we are studying the scrib and script words.  Spellers are focused on er, ear, eer type words.  I am pleased that a number of our spellers are also tackling the Greek and Latin roots list!

Lots of reading assessments this week and next.   The students are working hard and providing each other with a quiet, calm testing environment.  Groups will change in January, which is also when our class begins the biography unit.  The third grade classes at Lake Harriet teach the units in a different order to make the best use of our materials.

Art Adventure again this Friday!
