All right, you were curious enough to click on this section so I’ll tell you a bit about myself!  I grew up in and still live in Minneapolis.  I’m a product of the Minneapolis Public Schools and have fond memories of my days as a student in the district.  I’m a proud member of the Patrick Henry class of 1981!  Bet you didn’t think I was that old!  While at Henry, I played tennis, basketball and badminton.  I also was in the concert and marching band.  I’ve been teaching in Minneapolis since the fall of 1987 and have been here at Lake Harriet Community School, which was formerly Audubon, since 1989.  It has been a privilege to be here all of these years!

I’m a 1984 graduate of the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle, WA.  I graduated with a Certificate in Biblical Studies.   In 1987 I graduated from Augsburg College with my Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Teaching.  In 1998 I completed a Master of Education from St. Mary’s University in Winona.

You can often find me involved in things at church, doing physically active things, or making music.  All are fundamental in making up who I am.

I like to bike, walk, run, cross cross-country ski, kayak, canoe, [My favorite place to canoe is in the BWCA], camp, hike [especially in the Mountains], geocache, and travel.  Some of my favorite trips have been trips to Colorado, Asia (Hong Kong, Nepal and Tibet), England, Slovakia, and most recently Tanzania!

One of my favorite hobbies is geocaching.  I started "caching" in 2006.  It's a great hobbie that involves two things that I enjoy - being outside in nature and being "techie".  If you're unfamiliar with geocaching, it's like high-tech treasure hunting using a gps unit.  It's a great family activity if you're looking for something new to try.

Music has always been a part of my life and is a passion of mine.  I love to sing whenever I have the opportunity, whether it’s by myself, with friends, or leading or singing for a group.  I also play clarinet, piano, and guitar, and penny whistle.  I also have written a little music.

I enjoy just spending time at home also.  I have two crazy cats named Summit and Glacier.  They keep me on my toes.

I’ve completed about 7 Birkebeiner ski races.  My goal is to complete 10.  I’m slow but I finish.  I have had two major mountain peak goals.  The first, to climb Mt. Rainier in Washington State; I finally climbed it in July of 2001.  What a great, yet exhausting, experience!  Check out the picture below.  The second, to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, was realized in July of 2007! What an awesome experience!  Two friends and I spent 23 days in Africa first climbing Kili and then going on a safari.

In 2003 and 2004 I went to Slovakia on short-term missions trips through my church.  It was a great experience.

During the summer of 2011 I fulfilled another dream I've had.  I went sky diving!  I went tandem, not solo, so I had someone who knew what he was strapped to me. : )  And in 2012 I bought a scooter, got my motorcycle license and love driving it all over town, including to work!

I want to keep singing, playing music and climbing mountains.
