Frequently Asked Questions

You've got questions, we've got answers. If you don't find your question here, you can e-mail us and we'll work hard to answer your challenging and thoughtful questions.

Even if you have notified your child's teacher, you must also call these numbers to report the absence:

Lower Campus - 668-3210

Upper Campus - 668-3310

Lower Campus: 8:00am - 4:00pm

Upper Campus: 8:00am - 4:00pm

Lower Campus - 8:00am - 4:00pm

Upper Campus - 8:00am - 4:00pm

Upper Campus - 9:20am and 3:45pm

Lower Campus - 9:15am and 3:50pm

Please call to report a student who will be more than 1 hour late. All late students must report to the main office (UC) or nurse's office (LC) to sign in and obtain a late pass.  District policy states that students who are late due to an appointment must have verification from the clinic to excuse the absence.

   Lower Campus - (612)-668-3210

   Upper Campus - (612)-668-3310

Phone calls to students can be disruptive to the whole classroom. While we discourage students from receiving phone calls during the day, we also realize that emergencies do occur. Please call the office of your child's school and we will take a message to deliver to your child.

Call either campus to request to be put on the 2nd address mailing list or complete the 2nd Address Form.

Be sure to fill out a school emergency card provided at the beginning of each year. If there are changes during the year, please contact the school nurse. The nurse will be happy to discuss any concerns you have and will educate the teachers of your child.

For safety issues, students are not permitted to carry their own medication. All medication must be locked in the health office. All medicine, including over-the-counter, must be approved for use by your child's doctor. Call the health office for a form that can be faxed to your doctor.

No. Homemade treats are prohibited by the Minnesota Department of Health. All treats, snacks, etc., must be purchased. Please comply with our wellness policy and provide non-food items or a nutritious snack.

Lower Campus: These arrangements are not permitted at the Lower Campus. Students at the Lower Campus who wish to make play dates should do so independent of the school.

Upper Campus: Both students affected must bring a note from home and come to the office in the morning for a bus pass. Students are not permitted to ride a bus unless they have a bus pass. Students must make these arrangements prior to riding the bus.

Call the school to request a school bus change request. If the address is within our busing area, we will send the request to transportation and give you information on the bus # and time.

Check out the district site and link to School Cafe. You will find information on how to pay and how to monitor your child's eating habits. (NOTE: You will need your child's school ID # to access this. You can find it on report cards, and other official school documents. You can also call the office to ask for it.)

Call the main number for Minneapolis Kids - (612)-668-3890. Or visit their website.

All families must sign their child out. When you arrive at the office, just let us know who you are picking up and we will call him/her to the office to meet you. We ask that you please refrain from picking up your child between 3:30 and the end of the school day because it is a very busy time of day.

Please encourage your child to leave a message. With the advent of caller ID, we get several calls each day from parents wondering why their child called. In general, if it was important, a message will be left. If your child is sick, the nurse will make every effort to notify you if he/she needs to be picked up.

Upper Campus - 9:20 a.m. Lower Campus - 9:15 a.m.

Children arriving at school at this time may proceed to the lunchroom for breakfast.

In Minneapolis, the school registration process is handled centrally by the Student Placement Center managed by Mpls Public Schools (MPS). You can call them at 612-668-1840 or learn more about registration at their website  Registration normally takes place in January for the following fall. The School Choice request cards are typically due to MPS in February for your best chance to get the school you want.

Please see this link to the district map on the MPS site.

Please see this link regarding illness and the recommendations of Minneapolis Public Schools.

Scheduled tours of LHCS are provided during November, December and January. Please check this website's home page for the current year's tour schedule. If it is not posted, please check the website at a later date.

Teacher assignments are mailed to student homes one to two weeks before school begins.

New teachers or new grade assignments require new pages. Please be patient and they will be set up as soon as possible.

You need to fill out a Family Activity Form at least ten days before your vacation and turn it into the office to notify them of your child's (children's) absence? We encourage you to take vacation time over days when your children are not in school. The administration reserves the right to approve or deny missed days based on attendance and student progress. Denied days will be considered unexcused absences. For additional questions regarding vacation time, please contact the principal or school office.

Parent Volunteers, school, and district staff work on the LHCS web pages. Everyone tries their best to make the site informative, consistent, and complete. There are no professionals or dedicated staff assigned to the site. If you are interested in volunteering, or if you have a suggestion or comment, use the contact us form.
