Welcome to 7th Grade!!!!!!!

Dear families,

I am excited about having my former 6th graders back for science, and also am looking forward to meeting and getting to know my new 7th graders!

As your child continues middle school, undoubtedly you will continued to see more changes occurring.  Some kids transitioned quickly into middle school as a 6th grader, while others will continue to struggle with organization, relationships and other typical middle school problems.  Others will finally get middle school all figured out this year.  As always, I need to know if you or your child had a concern or worry; they put on a different "game face" at school than at home, so we don't always know if they are struggling in some facet of their life.  Please do contact us so me (or any other of your child's teachers) so we can get your child the help they need and deserve.  I want your child to have a wonderful 7th grade year here at Lake Harriet!

Things to know or remember:

  • The best way to reach me is by email: diane.weiherhallen@mpls.k12.mn.us
  • Advisory is 21 minutes, occurring at the beginning of the day.  Students may not have me for science, but I will keep track of their progress in their classes, and get to know them well!
  • At conference time, you and your student will conference with me.  Conferences will be scheduled later in the quarter.  We used SignUp Genius last year, and will probably do so again this year.  I will send information home when the time comes to sign up.
  • Please bring advisory class donations, such as facial tissue and paper, to my classroom.
  • Teachers update their websites (usually) on Monday, so it may help you and your child stay informed and more organized if you check websites on Monday or Tuesday each week.

Some days we will have more to do than others, but I will:

  • help keep your child organized by giving them time to clean their locker (usually Mondays)
  • collect money for field trips
  • pass out weekly flyers
  • get to know them better, and help them get to know each other through team-building activities

Again, do email if you have questions!

Sincerely,

Diane Weiher
