Notice from the School Nurse: Recent LC Illness
Monday, February 20, 2012 3:15 PM

Due to an increase in the number of students from Lower Campus with a stomach illness, the Department of Health protocol calls for us to institute “No Self- Service” with food items in the cafeteria.  This will be in place through Tuesday (2/21) and possibly Wednesday (2/22) depending on the absences on Tuesday.

Teachers are taking measures in their classrooms to decrease communal use items and are having students wash their hands many times during the day.  These are standard measures.

Please remind your child to wash his/her hands many times during the day and especially before eating!  Please keep your child home if he/she has vomited or had diarrhea 24 hours prior to school.  Refer to these guidelines:

Keep the student home if he/she:

·         Has had an oral temperature of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours.

·         Has vomited 2 or more times in the past 24 hours.

·         Has diarrhea, an increased number of stools compared to normal or has stools that are loose, and he/she needs to use the bathroom frequently. If he/she has any rash for which the cause is unknown. Check with your doctor before sending them to school.

·         Has an illness (severe wheeze, severe cough, etc.) that prevents him/her from participating in routine activities. Call the school daily to report the illness.

If the student must take medication at school, annual written permission from a doctor and parent is required. Notify the school of any changes in your work, home, or cell phone numbers so the school can call you if your child becomes sick.
