Coaches are getting their new tables, lego setup kits, computers and training and preparing the registration forms to be handed out soon.  The website has been updated with new articles.  Please read the new articles "Introduction to GEMS and GISE", "Homework Requirements", "2012 Theme: Senior Solutions"  and the New "FAQs" to answer some commonly asked questions. 

LHCS GEMS and GISE groups learned about electrical circuits this past Spring.  Groups of students made good use of their new circuit knowledge by making games which were entered into an exhibition at Anishinabe Academy on Saturday, May 12, 2012.

The FIRST LEGO League Competition will be held

THIS SATURDAY

January 14

from 8:00 - 5:00

at Anishinabe Academy,   3100 E. 28th St. Minneapolis.  Here's a map:   

The kids need to BRING:

1) BOTH Parent Permission Slips: 1. First Consent and release form  2.  NASA realease form (brand new as of Tuesday- Gino's email)

    If you have misplaced yours, the 2 documents that must be signed

    and given to Mr. Marchetti/Mr. T  before your student can go to the district competition  

2) Wear your GISE/GEMS shirt

3) any presentation materials (if they made posters or other props for their presentation)

Core Values- 8:30 a.m.
Project- 9:10 a.m.
Design- 12:11 p.m.
performance #1 on the Blue 2 table- 9:57 a.m.
Performance #2 on the Blue 1 table- 10:51 a.m.
Performance # 3 on the Orange 1 table- 11:48 a.m.
Head-to-Head competition (single elimination) will be from 1:30-2:15 p.m.
The Award ceremony is from 4:30-5:00 p.m.

I will get more information to you when we return to school such as the location, address, bus arrival and pick-up times, etc.

 

GISE and GEMS is almost ready to begin! If you are interested in remaining in or joining the program see Mr. Marchetti (room 104) or Mr. T. (Room 201) for the forms and information letter. Forms are due by September 30. 

We will start out with the popular FIRST Lego League robotics session (which includes a research project and an invention within this year's theme: food safety) and will finish up with a unit in electronics. 

This is an out-of-school program for 4th - 8th graders and will include either morning or evening sessions one or two times a week. Note - This is a change in times for this year's sessions -evening sessions will be necessary to keep the program going. We should be getting under way the 1st week of October! See you soon!

Saturday Bus Schedule

We have our bus pick-up time for this Saturday, May 7!  Our time is 7:45 am.  Be here a bit early, say, 7:30 to be safe.  If you miss the bus we are heading to Washburn High School again at 201 West 49th Street, Minneapolis, MN.

A note for Mr. Marchetti's groups:  You don't need to show up Wednesday unless you need time to organize your journal or study for the quiz bowl. Show time on Wednesday is 8:30 unless you need more time than that. Both of my groups need to be here on time Friday so we can have a Quiz Bowl Battle Royal!!! On time is no later than 8:00!

To Mr. T's GEMS/GISE parents,
 
We have a lot to complete before the tournament next Saturday, May 7. If all GEMS and GISE students from Mr. T's groups could come to class Friday of this week (April 29th), Monday, Thursday, and Friday of next week, it would really help. We have to complete a form on each team’s car that includes quite a bit of data we still need to collect, finish painting, journaling, and we need to prepare for a quiz bowl. As you can see there is a still lot to accomplish.

Hi everybody,  Just one more reminder that May 7th is the big day at

Washburn.  We still don't have all the details but we will let you know

as soon as we do. 

The cars will be picked up by the district on Monday.  We will use next

week to fine tune our portfolios and bone up on quiz bowl factoids.

Hi everyone,

The Spurgat's have opened up their shop for all of us to cut our car shapes out using proper tools. They have opened up the shop on Wednesday and Thursday nights of this week, the 6th and 7th. Mr. T and I have decided the easiest way to make this work would be to split up his group and mine on different nights.

• Mr. T's groups will be using the shop on Wednesday April 6 from 4:30 to 7:30ish.
• Mr. M's groups will be using the shop on Thursday April 7 from 4:30 to 7:30ish.
