Welcome to Sixth Grade Social Studies!  This year we will embark on an exploration of Minnesota, beginning with the early history of the Upper Mississippi region, to life in Minnesotathrough the post WWII years.  This year we will learn about the Ojibwe and Dakota who lived in this area, and the history of European settlment and figures such as Henry Sibley andAlexander Ramsey, who shaped our first state government.  In the spring, we will research and write reports on Minnesota historical sites.

In addition to Minnesota history, in keeping with the new Minnesota Social Studies Standards, there will be an emphasis on economics and citizenship & government threaded throughout the curriculum.  Class work will involve historical research and analysis, technology tools, individual and group presentations, discussions, projects, current events, tests and quizzes.  Each unit will includea summative assessment or final project.  I look forward to a rich year of learning with you.
