Ms. Ismail

My name is Abir Ismail. I am excited to teach Telescoped Math 7/ Algebra 8, and Telescoped Algebra 8/ Intermediate Algebra at Lake Harriet Upper. This is my fourth year in the district.

In my opinion, the main goal of the education process is to generate well trained leaders to face real life problems with courage and energy to help humanity. To reach this goal, my role will be to encourage, motivate, and give students the chance to explore and be independent in their learning. I focus on the effective use of technology in the math classroom to help my students build a deep understanding of Mathematics. My master thesis focused on using technology that align with brain-based learning principles to activate students' prior knowledge. I also use technology to differentiate and reach the needs of each student in my classroom.

I have received a Master degree in education with major mathematics from the University od Wisconsin- La Crosse and I have a B.SC in Biomedical Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt. On March, 1995, I came to the United States to join my husband while he was pursuing a doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering in Virginia. I have four children, Omar, 22, Asmaa, 20,  Aisha 17,  and Hajar,15. My first two children were born in Norfolk, VA and my youngest two were born in Seattle, WA.

Other than teaching, I enjoy cooking and camping with my family.
