From the Desk of the Principal

Dear Lake Harriet Community School Staff and Families,

I am so excited and proud to be the Principal at Lake Harriet Lower Campus.

I live in Roseville with my husband Gary, a self-employed home remodeler.  I have three adult boys; Jake, Tony and Nick.  I grew up in Southeast Minneapolis, and I attended and graduated from the Minneapolis Public Schools (Marcy Elementary, Motley Elementary and Marshall-University High School 7-12). I am a lifelong learner and I hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Minnesota, my teachers training from Augsburg College, an M.B.A from Metropolitan State University and my Education Specialist principals training from St. Mary’s University.

I started my career with the Minneapolis Public Schools after a brief stint in the business world.  I began as a Community Education Coordinator, did a few years of reserve substitute teaching and then taught elementary for several years. I wanted to be able to reach more people with my passion for learning so I became an Intern Assistant Principal working at Downtown Open, Martin Luther King and Mill City Montessori schools all in downtown Minneapolis. Then, I became an Assistant Principal working at Benjamin Banneker a K-8 in South Minneapolis, Jenny Lind a K-5 in North Minneapolis, Ramsey International Fine Arts a K-8 in Southwest Minneapolis and Lake Harriet Upper.

I am so happy and extremely fortunate to continue my tenure at Lake Harriet Community School as the Principal of the Lower Campus.

I consider myself a servant leader and will work hard to maintain the integrity of this fine school. As we start the new year, I will work hard to help your child(ren) be a success at Lake Harriet Lower and prepare them for their educational journey with the Minneapolis Public Schools.

I look forward to meeting all of you and working together to make this great school even greater and a peaceful environment for all of our students to learn in.

Sincerely,

Merry Tilleson
