Dear Families:

Thank you to all the volunteers who made the DragonFest Carnival such a wonderful success this past Friday evening. Now, more than ever, the work of our PTA to raise funds is the key ingredient to continued program enrichment for our students. April 18 – 24 was volunteer appreciation week. I can speak for all Lake Harriet staff in saying a heartfelt “Thank you!” to our community. Volunteerism is how we get things done at LHCS. I am always taken back by the generosity of time our parents give, even though they have busy lives with family and careers. If you are a Lake Harriet parent who has not yet engaged in activities through our PTA or Site Council, I encourage you to take that step. You will make new friends, become more involved in your child’s school and know that the contribution of your talents and time benefits many.

Remember that April 30 is the final day to turn in parent student placement forms. These are available in the school offices and also electronically on the school website. We have one change in the class schedule posted in a prior issue of The Connection. Instead of there being a fifth classroom for third grade, we will have a third/fourth grade split classroom.

We are coming into the season of many concerts—both instrumental and vocal. These performances by our students are some of Lake Harriet’s shining moments. In addition, our Student Council is sponsoring a talent show at 7 p.m. on April 29 to support Harriet Helps Haiti. Our City Wide Middle Level Student Government representatives (I. del Castillo, M. Berg, C. Johnson and E. Croce) won the Community Service Challenge Best Presentation Award for Harriet Helps Haiti. Good job, future leaders!

Sincerely,

Mary Rynchek
