Mr. Murphy, Rm. #105

Week of 09/17/2018

Dear Families from 105,

This week we started off with a Pep Rally to kick off the Dragon Dash, happening on Wednesday 9/25. This event raised a significant amount of money for our school last year. We hope to repeat it this year. There will be MUCH more information to come.

We have written our first drafts of a personal letter from the perspective of a delegate at the Constitutional Convention. This week we are revising and completing a second draft on the computer. We are also exploring a speech from Lyndon Johnson regarding the Voting Rights Act.

Nearly all students completed the FAST Reading assessment last week, giving me to a glimpse of how I can best teach them.

This Thursday, 9/20 from 6:00-7:00 pm is Curriculum Night at Lake Harriet. Please visit and see what your children are learning!

This Thursday, 9/20, is also our class’ last day of the bike unit with Mr. DePerry. Students can bring a bike (and helmet!) from home if possible. The school has additional bikes. Students will need their permission sheets signed and returned to ride around Lake Harriet on 9/20.

I set up a SignUpGenius to schedule a Fall Conference.

Please follow the link to reserve 20 minutes in one of the following time slots:

  • Thursday, October 11 from 4:20-8:20 pm

  • Tuesday, October 16 from 4:20-8 pm

  • Wednesday, October 17 from 8:20 am-4:20 pm

Note: Families will meet with their Advisory / Block 1 Teachers and not their Block 2 teachers.

Please bring your child with you. I look forward to meeting!

If the SignUpGenius does not work, please email me a time and I will try to enter you manually.

Additionally your child may have been exposed to head lice.

Finally, on Monday, October 15, fifth grade is going on a field trip to the Minnesota Zoo. You may have seen a permission slip come home last week for this. I would love some additional chaperones to come along. Please email me directly if you are interested!

Warmly,

John Murphy
