From the Principal’s Desk - Summer and Next Year Planning

Dear Families,

 

We have the timeline for the 2012 MPS Summer School Program. Students from Lake Harriet in grades K- 4th will be attending at Burroughs Elementary. Students from Lake Harriet in grades 5 – 8th will be attending at Barton School.

 

The program will run six weeks, from Monday, June 18 through Thursday, August 2,  Monday-Thursday, 9:00am - 3:00pm. No classes will be held the week of July 2-4.

 

The school district sends each school a list of student candidates that have been identified as potentially benefitting from the program based on test scores. Invitations are mailed from the district to the families on that list. Teachers also make student recommendations and will be directly discussing this with parents at the mid-year conferences. If you receive an invitation from the district and have questions, please contact your child’s teacher. Registrations for the program and transportation should be turned into the LHCS school office.

 

We are beginning to plan for next school year. At the Lower Campus, Amy Hollembeak, the additional second grade will move to the third grade. At the Upper Campus, the additional third grade class will better accommodate the large class size in this year’s second grade. The other members of the third grade team will be Amanda Nachman, Kelly Pier, Gino Marchetti, Dawn Porter and Barb Boerboon. The fourth grade team will consist of Ray Christy, Jane Liepitz, Amy O’Hara and Diane Jorde. The fifth grade team will be Brian Badenhoff, Sue LeVahn and Kate Weidenbach. At this time, there are no changes in middle grades.

 

As has been our practice in the past, parents of children whose current grade level teacher will be moving to the next grade level will have a choice of their child looping with their teacher or of selecting a new learning experience for their child for next year. These letters will be sent home to families the week of March 19, 2012 in your child’s backpack.

 

The window to submit a form about your child’s classroom placement for next year is Monday, March 19, 2012 through Friday, April 20, 2012. Please remember, this form is not a request for a teacher. It is to inform us about your child’s learning style and also to list some of their friends so we can try to have one friend in their classroom.  It does not pertain to incoming kindergarten children or middle grades students.

 

To  submit a form:

Starting March 19, forms will available online, on the school website and are to be submitted electronically. Send forms for current second graders, going into third grade to Ms. Parrish at the lower campus*.  Paper copies will also be available in the two school offices beginning March 19th. Forms will not be accepted after midnight, April 20, 2012.
