I am a middle-grades special education teacher at Lake Harriet Community School, Upper Campus [UC]. I work with a team of licensed teachers and special education assistants (SEAs) in the DCD program. I also collaborate with special education service providers, paraprofessionals, and manage a caseload of students. I have a Masters in Special Education from the University of St. Thomas and have been teaching in the Minneapolis Public Schools since 2004. I have licensure in Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD), Learning Disabilities (LD), and Emotional or Behavioral Disorders (EBD).
My educational philosphy is to work toward inclusive practices and meet the needs of all students. I provide a safe, caring environment for learning, growth and social development. I work with students to develop friendships and meaningful connections across school settings. I value inclusion, accessibility, diversity, creativity and collaboration with families, community members and school staff. I value music, the arts, and exploring our natural environment with students. I also work to promote cognitive engagement, constructivist learning, 21st Century skills, and equity.
