Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Welcome to a new school year! I am so excited to be your child's teacher, working with such an amazing crew of 5th Grade teachers. This year, Mr. Murphy and I will teach English Language Arts and Social Studies, and Mr. Badenhoff and Mr. Tousignant will teach Math and Science. If you have me for Homeroom and Block #1, I am your go to person if you have any questions about about the Fifth Grade curriculum or your child's academic progress in school. If I can't answer your questions, I will direct you to the right person.

This is my 19th year with MPS, and 15th year at LHUC where I taught Middle School Language Arts and Social Studies prior to teaching 5th Grade. I hold a B.S. and MA from the U of M (go Gophers!) and a degree in Ed Leadership from STU. My professional interests are focused in the areas of children's lit, technology learning, and in facilitating  Paideia discursions in the classroom. I am also a huge fan of Growth Mindset theory and I strive to implement its positive thinking strategies with students. During my leisure time, I enjoy traveling, reading, yoga, cooking, and biking around for hours exploring the scenic parkways and byways that surround the beautiful Twin Cities area.

Communication:

  • The best way to contact me is always by E-mail
  • I seldom check my MPS voicemail so email me with the phone number you can be reached at if you'd like me to call you.
  • I am available before and after school by appointment..
  • If you need to get a message to your child during the day or drop something off, another option is to leave a message in the office.

Website:

  • I update my homepage each Monday & throughout the week, and I use it to communicate about homework, projects & field trips happening in 5th Grade.
  • Please, please, please bookmark my homepage and refer back to it often so you are up-to-date on what is happening in class.

My Schedule: *This year my Prep Hour is at the end of the day so I may not read your emails until then.

  • 9:40 am-12:10 pm: Advisory and Block 1 ELA/SS
  • 12:10-1:00 pm: Recess Duty and Lunch
  • 1:00-3:15 pm: Block 2 ELA/SS
  • 3:19-4:10 pm: My Prep Hour (This is when the students have specialists & I prep for the next school day...)

If you have any questions please contact me by email or find me in room #104. I look forward to a fun and challenging year of learning with your student.
