Mr. Wood

About Me

I am a lifelong resident of Minneapolis, a graduate of the Minneapolis Public Schools, and a proud parent of three MPS graduates.  I have been teaching social studies for twenty-seven years with sixteen years in Minneapolis and six years at Lake Harriet Community School.  I have taught at both the middle school and high school levels in Minneapolis and I served for three years as the district’s social studies specialist. I also have experience at the college level, teaching social studies methods courses for Metro State and Bemidji State Universities.  My BA and MA in Education are from the University of Minnesota.

For fifteen years I created and published the monthly Learning Laffs Humor for Educators newsletter and I still make use of some of the more than 2000 cartoons I created for that publication.

My leisure interests include cooking, travel, camping, fishing, golf, biking, running, and reading for pleasure.

I am proud to be a part of Lake Harriet Community School.  I look forward to another great year working with my colleagues and with the Lake Harriet students, parents, and community.  This year I will be teaching 8th grade Global Studies.  If you have questions regarding your child, or any questions about his/her social studies course, please let me know! The best way to contact me is by email:
