Testing Schedule for Grades 3-8
Monday, March 16, 2009 11:40 PM

We are moving into the ‘testing window’ of the school year. The Title 1 section of No Child Left Behind requires that all public school students in grades 3-8 be assessed in reading and mathematics to measure Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). LHCS administers the following tests to meet this requirement: the MCA-IIs (paper and pencil tests in reading and mathematics for students grades 3-8, and a computerized science test for grades 5 and 8), the MTELL (a math test for English Language Learners), and the MTAS (an alternative skills test for students with specified IEP needs).

Grades 3-8 will take MCA-II Math on April 15th and 16th and MCA-II Reading on April 21st and 22nd. Grades 5 and 8 will take MCA-II Science in May; specific dates have yet to be decided. The MTELL and MTAS will be individually scheduled.

Our teachers prepare the students by teaching the form of the tests as well as the skills to be assessed. Families may access information on test preparation from a MN Dept of Ed website: mde.testing@state.mn.us.

Test time can be a stressful time of year. We work with students to help them take the tests seriously while simultaneously keeping them in perspective; these tests are only a few of many that they will take during their student careers. Our students do well and we are proud of them. We thank you for your support throughout the year as we prepare for another busy spring!
