It’s hard to believe, but conferences are not too far away. Conferences are one of the most important ways that staff and families communicate about students’ academic, social and emotional growth.  Research indicates that when families and staff collaborate, students are more successful.  We would like to see 100% turnout.  Please help us reach this goal!

Grades K-5:  Teachers will use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP), a written outline that helps staff to review, discuss and plan for your child’s individual needs.  Please come prepared to talk about your child’s strengths and improvement.  Together you and your child’s teacher will identify goals that can be worked on during
the year.

Grades 6-8:  Conferences will be student-led conferences in advisory rooms.  Each student and parents will have a 15-minute conference with the advisory teacher.  The student will create a portfolio and be taught to lead the conference in advisory.  The student will lead the conference by talking about each class, his/her strengths, weaknesses, goals and a plan to reach these goals.  If you feel that you have concerns with a certain class, you can then arrange a time to meet with that specific teacher at another time.

Paul Porter, who teaches eighth grade algebra, and Ayumi Stockman, who teaches Japanese, will communicate with parents of their classes by email regarding conferences.

All Grades:  The K-8 specialists will be available in their rooms.  Please take the time to visit them so you have a complete picture of your child’s day.  Child care will be provided at these locations.  LC: media center on Thursday for ½ day kindergarten conferences; gym for all other conference times. UC: Room 109.
