Young people between the ages of 6 and 18 who live in or around Linden Hills are invited to submit their poetry for publication in a new book of poetry to be published by Trolley Car Press.

“This will be our second book celebrating the extraordinary talent of poets in the neighborhood,” says Doug Wilhide, founder of Trolley Car Press and Poet Laureate of Linden Hills.  “We want to make sure every young writer, every parent and every teacher in the area knows about this opportunity. If you’re a young poet -- or know someone who is -- spread the word.” The plan is to collect about a hundred poems from 40-50 young poets and publish them in a softcover volume that will be available in March or April of next year.  “We’ve applied for a grant application to help pay the costs,” says Wilhide.  “If that doesn’t come through, we’ll find private financing to make it happen.”

“Publication is an important step for young writers.  It validates their work and the importance of good writing.  It also shows that the community is interested in hearing what they have to say -- how they see the world and express their views,” Wilhide says. The first book of local poetry, “Between the Lakes: The Poets of Linden Hills,”collected 75 poems by 11 poets.  It was published in March and sold nearly 300 copies in the first five months.  For more information, please contact Doug Wilhide, 612-926-3939.

Poets can submit up to 6 poems by emailing them to, or mailing them to Trolley Car Press, 3019 West Forty-third Street, Minneapolis, MN 55410.  Poets should be between the ages of 6 and 18 and live in or around Linden Hills.  They should include contact information (an email address or phone number), name, age and where they go to school.  Deadline for submissions is Dec. 15, 2006.
