Notes from the Office: Dear Parents

Dear Parents:

Below is a message from the Minneapolis Public Schools Communication Department regarding enrollment:
The staff and principals of the Minneapolis Public Schools are committed to managing class sizes at a ratio that positively impacts instruction. Although we are delighted that most of our schools reported increases in enrollment this fall, we know that this has led to temporarily larger class sizes.

Historically, class size adjustments have been made in October. We responded earlier this year in an effort to relieve schools of larger than desired class sizes. Each spring the district staff makes enrollment projections based on previous enrollment as well as other factors (immigration, choice process, etc.).  Each fall we monitor the enrollment of schools especially new arrivals and returning students. This year, as always, we have students who have shown up in numbers that have created more students in some classes and less in others.

We understand the importance of providing our students with smaller class sizes and appreciate your support and patience as we make necessary adjustments.
