Introduction to LHCS

I am glad you are taking an in-depth look at our Lake Harriet Community School website. We would be happy to arrange a school tour, if you are interested in seeing our school personally.

Lake Harriet staff and parents are committed to academic rigor for our children. We are also committed to their education in the arts, physical health, social skills development and community service. We believe in educating the whole child, respecting each child’s unique learning style and challenging each child to reach their fullest potential. We believe all children can learn and become smarter through sustained effort on their part, and sustained effort and excellence in instruction by our staff. Our teachers participate weekly in professional development. We incorporate the “Principals of Learning”* in our Standards focused instruction and assessment. We offer extra academic support after school for students needing support in their learning.

Lake Harriet Community School is proud of our students’ high scores on the Minnesota Comprehensive Achievement state tests. Our kindergarten through eighth grade focus is on preparing our students to be knowledgeable, self-directed, life-long learners whom appreciate a diverse society and are prepared for a rapidly changing technical world.

My role as the principal is to be an advocate for the children, an academic leader for the teachers, and an effective communicator with parents and the community. It is important for me to provide staff the support and resources needed to help them help their students reach their full potential. My mantra is:

“Anyone can count the seeds in an apple

No one can count the apples in a seed.”

See the potential in all children.

Should you have any questions, contact us at 612-668-3310, upper campus, grades three through eight; or at 612-668-3210, lower campus, kindergarten through second grade.

Mary Q. Rynchek

Principal
