Families All Matter Book Project

Upper Campus FAM takes place October 15th to December 17th.

Lower Campus FAM takes place in February 2011

We are very lucky to have the PTA sponsored Families All Matter Book Project at our school!  This is a collection of children's books that celebrate many different families, ethnic backgrounds and family structures.  Its purpose is to help create environments where all children can feel safe, included, and respected.  The 10 themes of the book project are divided among the grades as listed below.

    1.  Families Are Different
    2.  Race/Ethnicity
    3.  Divorce/Break ups
    4.  Lesbian and Gay Family Members
    5.  Socio-economics
    6.  Immigration

    8.  Disability
    9.  Aging
  10.  Religion

Thanks to the consistent generous support of the PTA new books have been added over the last few years.  Please take a moment to click on the lists to the right to see the new additions!

The links to the right contain the books listed for grades 1-2(LC) and 3-5(UC).  These age categories are guidelines only.  Many of the books would work very well for children either younger or older than as listed.

Trained parent readers or the classroom teacher read a book with the class, lead the class in some discussion, and facilitate time/space to journal individual thoughts about the story.

If you have questions about this program or would like to become a parent reader please contact Mary Jordan
