Ellen Murphy's Background
I began life in this world as an East Coaster, born in Connecticut.  My elementary and high school educational experiences were so enlivening that I chose to become a teacher.  I have a bachelor’s degree in English from St. John’s University – New York, a master’s degree from the University of Bridgeport – Connecticut, and my administrative Certification from St. Mary’s University – Winona.

I began teaching in the bedroom communities of Norwalk and Stamford, Connecticut.  Other teaching experiences included Chicago’s inner city and South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.  After teaching in Minneapolis for a few years, I moved into the principalship.  My last 8 years have been with Minneapolis Public Schools.

My family and I live in Linden Hills.  I have 2 daughters.  The college student is a graduate of Southwest High School and the second is a senior at Southwest. 

I am excited about being part of the Lake Harriet administration as POSA (principal on special assignment) doing assistant principal work.  Lake Harriet Community School is high quality and I know our administrative team aims to continue with that level of success.
